Welcome to Aylsham Dog Training — Labrador & Spaniel specialists, pet gundog enthusiasts.
We live and breathe gundog breeds. We work our own dogs on shoots and survive them in the house… so yes, we get it.
If you feel like your dog has an unlimited battery and zero off switch — you’re in the right place.
If your Spaniel’s recall only works in secure fields, on a Tuesday, with the wind behind you — you’re in the right place.
If your Labrador believes every dog, human and lamppost deserves a personal introduction — you’re in the right place.
If you’re walking for miles but still being stared at like “cool… what’s next?” — welcome.
Gundog breeds are some of the most popular for a reason — clever, driven, affectionate — but without the right structure they can be… a lot.

Our training philosophy is focused on clear communication, building strong relationships between dogs and their owners, and providing practical training that fits into everyday life.

Our 1:1 training is tailored to your dog, with a focus on pet gundogs, recall, lead walking, and reducing reactivity in real-world environments.

Our group classes take you from puppy and beginner training through to more advanced, pet gundog-focused skills in real-world environments.

Our intensive Collect & Train programme provides structured, hands-on training, ideal for pet gundogs and dogs needing faster progress with recall, lead walking, and control around distractions.

Our 1-1 training plans are built entirely around the individual dog and owner.

Our group training classes focus on creating calm, responsive dogs in real-world environments.

A supplement to in person training, to help you achieve results faster.

We run structured, small-group classes designed to balance individual coaching with the benefits of shared learning. Our sessions focus on practical behaviour skills such as lead walking, recall, neutrality, impulse control, and calmness, with exercises adapted to each dog’s needs. This allows us to support a wide range of dogs, including adolescents, pet gundogs, and dogs working through challenges like over-excitement or reactivity.
Our initial assessment is designed to give us a full picture of both the dog and the owner, not just the behaviour that’s presenting as a problem. We begin with a detailed discussion about the dog’s history — including breed, age, routine, exercise, diet, previous training, and any specific challenges the owner is experiencing. We then observe the dog in a practical setting. By the end of the assessment, we explain what we’re seeing, outline the likely root causes of any challenges, and provide a clear, structured plan for moving forward.

Our 1-1 training plans are built entirely around the individual dog and owner. Before creating any plan, we take time to understand the dog’s history, temperament, breed traits, lifestyle, previous training, and the specific challenges or goals the owner has. From there, we create a structured, step-by-step plan tailored to that dog’s pace and needs.
We track each dog’s progress through structured session notes, clear training goals, and measurable criteria. Communication with the owner is ongoing and transparent. After sessions, we provide clear feedback on what went well, what needs refining, and exactly what to practise at home.
In our consults, we focus on practical, realistic training that works in everyday life. We take a balanced approach — combining clear boundaries with fair guidance and positive reinforcement — so dogs understand both what to do and what not to do.
Please bring a flat collar or well fitted harness, a standard lead (no retractable leads), plenty of small tasty treats, a treat pouch if you have one, a mat or blanket for your dog to settle on, poo bags and water for your dog.
